FAQ

Will there be a registration fee for the event?

For reasons of inclusivity, we have decided not to charge a registration fee. The event is, therefore, free and open to the public upon registration.

Please fill out the Registration Form  by September 15. Registration is mandatory for all participants and speakers, whether they are attending in person or online.

Are there any financial subsidies available for speakers?

As the event is free for everyone, we are unable to offer travel grants for speakers selected through the call for papers. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and understand that it may affect the format of your presentation. If this means shortening your trip to attend only on the day of your panel, we also fully understand and hope that you will consider joining online on the other days of the conference.

Do you have any affordable housing recommendations?

We recommend checking out the facebook group (in french and english) that offers long term and short term rentals in Lausanne: https://www.facebook.com/groups/497095467395008/ (for english speakers) and https://www.facebook.com/groups/3387034181609122/ or https://www.facebook.com/groups/lausanne.bouche.a.oreille/(for french speakers). There are also a few affordable hostels and hotels, such as Lausanne Youth Hostel Jeunotel (https://www.youthhostel.ch/fr/auberges/auberge-de-jeunesse-lausanne-jeunotel) or the Hôtel du Marché (https://www.hoteldumarche-lausanne.ch/)

Will meals be covered for speakers during the event?

The Birthing, Mothering and Othering team will provide lunch and coffee breaks for speakers during the four days of the event, as well as a cocktail reception on Thursday at the end of the public conference.

There is also a cafeteria and restaurant in each building on campus.

What are the translation arrangements during the conference?

We will have 2 days with professional interpreters translating panels in English into Spanish — both for online participants and those present on site — and the panels in Spanish will also be translated into English. For bilingual panels, moderators and the organizing team will ensure consecutive translation. As we are not professional translators, we require all participants to provide their papers in due time so that we can translate them and have a proper translation to use during your presentation. If you feel more comfortable speaking Spanish during the discussion part of the panel and your presentation was in English, we can also help you translate your answers into English.

As a speaker, when is my paper due?

We kindly ask you to submit your paper to birthingmotheringandothering@gmail.com by September 1st, so we can translate it to spanish or english. Please make sure your paper is either in .docx or .pdf format before you send it.

What are the papers length and format?

All speakers, except for the keynotes, will have 20 minutes to present followed by a discussion with the audience lasting between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the number of panelists. Most panels take place simultaneously, meaning that you will not be able to attend all of them. Workshops and roundtables require registration, as the rooms are smaller and have a limited number of seats. Please let us know if you won’t be able to attend, so that we can give your spot to someone else.

Whether you join us online or in person, we will make sure to take your time zones into consideration when drawing up the program. However, as the number of participants from the Americas exceeds the number of evening panel slots, some may be scheduled for an early morning session in their country.

How can I join the UNIL Campus ?

You can get to the campus by metro (line M1) and by bus (lines 24, 25, 31, 701 and 705). We will let you know as soon as we know the exact building and rooms where the event will take place.

To help you find your way in the campus, we recommend downloading the following map: https://www.unil.ch/files/live/sites/unil/files/07-campus/0708-acces-transports/070807_planete-unil/planete-unil-2024-2025.pdf

You can also use the UNIL interactive map to select a room or building and get precise directions to find your way around: https://planete.unil.ch/.
